Reading is a valuable life skill and at English Martyrs, we strive to promote a positive, school-wide reading. Reading for pleasure and purpose is a key part of this, and the National Literacy Trust has found that book ownership increases mental wellbeing, reading age and most importantly, enjoyment of reading. As part of our reading culture, we organise pop-up bookshops in the Library, so staff and students can browse brand new books to buy for themselves or others.
Our Scholastic Book Fair in the Library has just finished and every book sold helped us to get free books for our school library and classrooms. I would like to thank parents, students and staff for being so generous once again with supporting our book fair. Here are our Year 7 Reading Reps showing off the books they picked out for the Library.
