Welcome to the English Martyrs Catholic School Library!
Our library is a vibrant and supportive environment dedicated to enhancing reading and learning for all pupils and staff. We provide a diverse collection of fiction and non-fiction materials to promote reading for pleasure, curriculum support, and personal development.
How The Library Supports Reading
Library Mission:
We strive to empower students through:
- Research Skills: Encouragement and support for independent research, including the Extended Project Qualification.
- Community Building: Special programs, clubs, and events to foster well-being and inclusivity.
- Safe Space: A welcoming atmosphere where everyone can relax and explore their interests.
Opening Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Break and Lunchtime: Open for browsing, reading, and borrowing.
Study Club:
- Mondays & Tuesdays: 2:50 PM – 4:00 PM
- A dedicated time for homework and projects, with access to library resources.
Borrowing Books: Access Our Online Library here
- Accessit Library Software: Students can log in with their school email to browse, create reading lists, and track due dates.
- Borrowing Rules:
- General Stock: Up to 2 books for 2 weeks; renewals available.
- High Demand Books: Manga, graphic novels, and new titles for 1 week.
- Sixth Form Students: Up to 4 books for 4 weeks; renewals permitted.
- Returning Books: Drop off in the Returned Books crate at the library desk.
Reminders:
- Students will receive up to three email reminders for overdue books. If necessary, parents and carers will also be notified. Form tutors and English teachers will receive reminder lists.
Lost Library Books:
- Students are given time to locate lost books. If a book is not found, we request either a replacement or reimbursement.
- Lost Book Charge: £5.00 per book via ParentPay. Many students find lost books at home!
