This week, students in Years 9 and 12 have had the pleasure of attending some STEM talks by leading professionals.

On Tuesday, Dr Andrew Dempster, a senior postdoctoral researcher from the University of Nottingham presented his talk entitled “A Microbiologist in a Global Pandemic.” Here he gave an overview of what it was like working in a COVID PCR testing laboratory, as well as talking to students about his own projects in the lab (some of which contained redacted information!) Additionally on Tuesday, students were able to join Jitesh Joshi, a Senior financial analyst for Zendesk (a Silicon Valley company). Jitesh gave an inspirational talk about his journey from a Physics student at Imperial College to his current position as a financial analyst discussing the benefits of doing a science degree. Lastly on Wednesday, Chandan Parmar, a senior structural engineer at Arup gave an insightful presentation to our students. Students enjoyed learning about a day in the life of an engineer and hearing about the wide range of buildings she had helped design. This was followed by a Q and A session to which students enthusiastically contributed. We hope that our students will be inspired by these presentations. There is one more to look forward to next week.
