On 1st July 2022, the school returned to Saffron Lane for its first Sports Day in three years.
Sports Day challenged students to compete against each other in track and field events in one of the most exciting days of the year. The only students participating who had experienced Sports Day at Saffron Lane before were Year 10. For all other year groups, this was a brand-new experience.
The students competing showed dedication and determination as they all strove to achieve their very best, gain points for their houses and break school records.
It was wonderful to see all students come together in support of one another, creating a fantastic atmosphere for competitors to perform at their best in a scenario similar to a professional track and field event, giving the students a good taste of how to perform well under pressure.
There were many strong performances from various students competing in both track and field events. There were four records broken on the day and these were all girls’ Triple Jump records; congratulations to Natalia K (Year 7), Natalia S (Year 8), Anjelita J (Year 9) and Aleena P (Year 10).
Special congratulations to the overall winning house, Fisher, which took first place. Only a few points behind and awarded second and third place were Ward and Campion houses respectively.
We would like to commend the students for creating such a supportive atmosphere and on their superb conduct throughout the day. Our thanks to all the English Martyrs’ staff who helped to organise this event and the staff on site for helping with travel arrangements. Finally, a special word of thanks must go to Mr Nicholson and Mr Edwards for organising such a successful event.
