Spotlight on Sixth Form

This week we were delighted to welcome our Year 11 students to our Spotlight on Sixth Form event, three days of talks and taster lessons to help them prepare for their entry to Sixth Form in the autumn.

Day one began with an introduction to studying humanities, social sciences and Business Studies. Lessons took place across nine individual subject areas from English to Politics and Psychology to History. Later in the day a huge number of students attended an informative talk on how to prepare an application to Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities.

Our scientists began day two learning about the huge number of career pathways open to students who select a science A level or Science BTEC. In addition to taster sessions in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, students were also invited to talks on a career in Engineering with Mr McCaughey and applying for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry with Mrs Singh.

The final day showcased our wonderful range of Arts subjects and our excellent BTEC offer. Students were able to learn more about Art, Film, Photography, Drama, Music and Media in addition to Sport and IT. We are extremely fortunate to offer such a wide range of specialisms to enable students to pursue varied careers in these fields. In recent years students have gained success in careers in architecture, fashion journalism and shoe design to name just a few!

It has been wonderful to hear from students about how helpful they have found this event. Clearly a thoughtful and mature group of young people, we are excited to welcome them to our Sixth Form in September!
