This week’s Aspire Club (for more able students) focused on developing literacy and cultural capital. Students from each Year 8 form group had a different article to read and discuss from the current issue of The Week Junior.

Each student then completed a worksheet on their assigned topic in which they formulated sentences using the conjunctions, ‘because’, ‘but’ and ‘so’.

This exercise from The Writing Revolution gave students the opportunity to demonstrate nuanced understanding of the news articles through sophisticated sentence construction.
