Aspire Club

On Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th November, more able students in Years 7 and 8 Aspire Clubs had big decisions to make in an interactive crisis management scenario led by the Geography Department.

Students were part of a team of volcano experts invited to the Montserrat Volcano Observatory.

They had to work together quickly using their Geography skills to decide on the best course of action for each scenario as the Montserrat Volcano erupted. Using the concepts of vulnerability and resilience, students had to make well-informed, evidence-based decisions on how to deal with hazards such as pyroclast flows and ash cloud. Finally, students heard how the skills they had used could contribute to wide-ranging job opportunities available to Geographers.

We look forward to the next Aspire Club sessions led by the History Department, which complement the online access for all members of Aspire Club to The Week Junior.
