On Friday 8th March 2024, our school took part in the FA-led initiative #LetGirlsPlay football event. The FA established this nationwide event to ensure that girls have the same football opportunities as boys in schools and clubs. #LetGirlsPlay is a campaign to influence and drive change, showing that football can and should be played by girls. It is bringing together a growing community of people of all genders, ages and backgrounds who want to champion equal access for girls, helping to create independent, resilient young girls who will be a force for good in all local communities.

As part of the Biggest Ever Football Session, the PE department ran a variety of football competitions for the girls in our school. There were prizes on offer, with the highlight being a Leicester City Women’s Football Club shirt signed by the Women’s First Team players. Competition winner announcements will follow shortly, with the possibility of some of our students qualifying for the county-level competition.

We had a fantastic turnout for the event, with participants picking up free goody bags containing information about opportunities to play football in their local area. We really hope the girls enjoyed their day and that for many of them, it will be the start of their football journey.
