English Martyrs’ has hosted a series of events to commemorate Black History Month this year.

Throughout October, Black History events such as assemblies and subject workshops have sought to celebrate the stories of Black people within our own school community, who form a significant proportion of our student body and whose stories at present might not be well known. This included the stories of families who might have migrated to Britain recently or longer ago; the stories of Afro-Caribbean communities who might have migrated as a result of WW2 or the Immigration Act of 1948, the experience of migration in the 1960s and 70s, as well as the experience of Black British students and families within our school and Leicester in the modern day.
