Tuesday 23rd January. Y7 and 8 Girls National Cup Match vs Kibworth Mead Academy.
The team travelled to Kibworth to play against a very good and well-established Kibworth side. It was a very spirited performance from the girls, and they showed excellent determination and resilience to limit the Kibworth attack. A strong first-half performance from our defenders (Jessica, Aine, and Milena) backed up by our goalkeeper Laura, kept us in the game and enabled us to go into the second-half level. Late on in the second half, on the counterattack, we took the lead through an excellent finish from Jessica. Although we battled hard, we couldn’t prevent an equaliser from Kibworth very late on in the game. The game went to penalties, with Laura K making an excellent save. Some strong penalties from Kibworth combined with a few narrow misses from us meant we lost the game on penalties. I am so proud of every one of the girls for a fantastic effort. The player of the match could have gone to numerous players, but a standout performance in defence and scoring our only goal of the game earned Jessica POTM.
Thursday 25th January. Y7 Tournament at New College.
For a large proportion of these students, this week saw them play their first competitive games of 9 aside football. They travelled to New College Leicester to participate in the West Leicester Tournament. The girls were a credit to the school and showed excellent determination, effort and passion for the game. They saw narrow 1-0 defeats to New College and Babington, an assured performance and 4-0 victory against Lancaster, and a brilliant performance and draw against Fullhurst. In terms of POTM, it was too difficult for Mr Nicholson and Mr Edwards to decide, as all of the girls played extremely well. Well done to all involved!
