Students in year ten recently enjoyed a visit from Magistrates in the Community, a wonderful opportunity to learn about the magistracy, the court system, the sentencing powers that they have, and the different types of cases Magistrates Courts deal with.
The visit also included a mock trial which involved a number of students playing the parts of the people in the court and two of the magistrates. Based on the evidence heard, students had to decide whether the defendant was guilty or not guilty before learning more about the potential sentences for the crime being dealt with in the trial.
