The English Speaking Union runs the prestigious Churchill Public Speaking Competition – a national event to promote good communication skills in young people. Area and regional rounds run from November to Easter.
We have entered a team each year for over twenty years, but rarely move beyond the first round. The competition in our area is VERY tough.
We are absolutely delighted, therefore, that this year our team successfully negotiated the Area Final on January 22nd to join Oundle and Northamptonshire High School for Girls in the East Midlands Regional Final on Thursday March 13th.
Heidi delivered a thought-provoking speech on Martin Luther King’s statement: ‘There comes a time when silence is betrayal’; Berlinda was a natural and warm chair, who put the guest speaker at ease and Rita asked thoughtful questions to explore the topic further.
They were all commended for the naturalness of their delivery. It was lovely to see them representing the heart of English Martyrs.
