On Monday 27th September 2021, the Year 11 Boys’ Football team competed in the first round of the ESFA National Football Cup competition. This fixture was the first competitive fixture since the pandemic for both English Martyrs’ and our opponents Guilsborough Academy, Northamptonshire.

Despite the lack of recent competitive school football, both teams began the match very brightly and Guilsborough took an early lead. English Martyrs’ then took control of the match and led 3-1 at half time, with goals scored by Connor, Raijuan and Prosper. In the second half, English Martyrs’ continued to dominate possession of the ball and created many chances to score further goals. By the full-time whistle, Oscar scored twice for English Martyrs’ and the match ended in a 5-2 victory.

The whole squad performed superbly and represented English Martyrs’ with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Prosper, but could have easily been awarded to several of the students. Congratulations to the Year 11 Boys’ Football team and good luck in the second round!
