Dear Parents

Learning routines this term

I have spent a lot of time last week and this reviewing lessons and student work. I am very pleased to tell you that there is a strong atmosphere for learning throughout the school, and that our young people have started the academic year very well. The majority of planners I looked at were written up and signed up to date and well used by the students concerned, book work is of a high standard and students are making strong contributions to lessons and to extra-curricular activities. It was a particular joy to visit Year 8 students on their retreats at Mount St Bernard’s Abbey and to note that we have now had three celebrations of voluntary Mass in our school Chapel, in addition to the Dedication of Studies Masses celebrated with everyone. Congratulations to our Junior Choir who sang at the special Mass to mark the Seventieth Anniversary of the foundation of Christ the King Primary School, and to the Schola Cantorum for leading music at Mass at the Bishop’s Day in Nottingham University.

It is very encouraging to see that the term has begun so well.

Wearing of Face Coverings

I would like to thank all of our staff and students for wearing face coverings in class and around the school to prevent the spread of Covid infections during the last two weeks. I am pleased to tell you that we have seen a marked decline in the number of infections in our community, although there is still a significant number of infections reported daily. Thank you to everyone for continuing to undertake Lateral Flow Tests at home. This detects non-symptomatic cases at an early stage. Please continue this good practice.

In consultation with Public Health officials we are now changing the rules regarding the wearing of face coverings. From Monday students will no longer be required to wear coverings during lessons. However, everyone will still be required to wear face coverings into and around our buildings and in any large gatherings such as assembly. The exemptions apply as before, and a lanyard should be worn. I will review this requirement at half term.

Cloth face masks are available for sale in school priced £1, and disposable masks at 20p (cash).

Once again, my thanks to everyone with these measures. Our students have been very helpful and cooperative, showing great maturity in the ways in which we are all working together to stem the spread of coronavirus.

The NHS is offering free vaccines to all students over 12 in school next Wednesday. As per the letter earlier in the week, please sign up on the NHS website as soon as possible.

I would also like to thank so many parents for attending our Parents’ Information Meetings, the last of these for Year 12 and 13 takes place next week.
