Last week, we were privileged to welcome into our school Peter Barratt, grandson of Leicester-based Suffragette, Alice Hawkins, to give a talk to Year 8.

Peter delivered an engaging and informative talk (which certainly helped our subsequent lessons on the votes for women campaign), explaining Alice Hawkins’ life and role in the Suffragette movement in Leicester.

Peter’s focused on what this meant for Leicester, providing a strong local history theme, as well as setting this is in a national context. Our Year 8 students were impeccably behaved and engaged. They answered questions and asked important and engaging questions, too.

We would like to thank Mr Barratt for generously giving up his time, and delivering an interesting, entertaining and important speech.
