YEAR 9 Boys West Leicester Schools  football
On Tuesday 16th September, the year 9 boys football team starter their season with a trip to Beaumont Leys school for the West Leicester local league fixtures.
In their first match, they remained patient and eventually managed to score 4 goals in the second half against Beaumont Leys. This, alongside a strong and impressive defensive display meant they won the first match 4-0, with Dylan A being awarded player of the match.
Their second match was a much tighter contest against Babbington. English Martyrs went 1-0 up early in the match from some excellent pressing upfront by Elisha , who was rewarded when a defender made an error on the ball. However, 2 goals in the second half of the match from Babbington resulted in defeat.
Well done to all students involved for their effort and teamwork showed in both matches – and a special recognition for Kayden U who was consistently impressive in defence during both matches.
Year 11 Boys National Cup – Round 1 Success
On Wednesday 17th September, the year boys football team began their National cup campaign away at John Fernley School in Melton Mowbray.
Despite only having 11 players for the match, the English Martyrs students dug in deep and displayed a fantastic display of hard work, team spirit, and perseverance which eventually resulted in a 4-2 victory.
English Martyrs were the better team and dominated possession of the ball for the majority of the match, however John Fernley had the advantage of making multiple substitutions to add energy to their performance.
Well done to all students involved, especially Owen B who significantly contributed with another brilliant performance, scoring all 4 of the English Martyrs goals!
The team will now progress into round 2.
