On Wednesday 17th November, a group of 30 Year 8 students took part in an event called ‘Leicester during the Great War’. This event was organised by Historic England and English Martyrs’ was one of 5 schools lucky to participate.

After a thought-provoking opening performance about attitudes towards World War One at the Y Theatre, students learnt about the experience of living during World War One via a series of performances and interactive activities around the city centre. Students learnt about the process of conscription at the Town Hall, heard about women’s experiences at New Walk Museum, saw the memorial chapel to the Leicestershire Regiment in the Cathedral, learnt about a soldier’s equipment in Newarke House Museum and went through Drill Training at the Magazine!

It was a fantastic day, enriching students’ knowledge of this important conflict during the month of Remembrance.
