On Wednesday 4th March 2026, a team of English Martyrs students from Year 7, 9 and 11 attended the Leicestershire and Rutland School Boccia event.

After travelling to the Sir Jonathon North Tennis centre, students were firstly introduced to the sport before competing against another 7 school teams in attendance.

Throughout the event, the English Martyrs students scored a very impressive 33 match points across the 6 matches they played. This resulted in the team finishing in a silver medal position, narrowly missing out on gold by a few points. They even beat the team that were crowned eventual champions during the day.

More impressively, and as you will see by the photos, the English Martyrs team were given a trophy for the ‘spirit of the game’ award – chosen by some of the junior sports leaders from the host school who delivered and officiated the competition. It was noted that all of the students from English Martyrs demonstrated great teamwork throughout the day!

A massive thank you and well done to the students who attended – hopefully with a bit more practice and match experience we can go one step further next year!
