I am delighted to make you aware that our 11 students who represented English Martyrs yesterday at the Leicestershire & Rutland County Athletics Championship performed superbly.
Throughout the day our students competed against other students from both state and private schools across the county, with the majority of those also attending athletics club meetings outside of school. Each student had qualified for the event by winning the West Leicester Area Athletics event last month.
This year the event was held at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium at Loughborough University, an unbelievable opportunity for our students to perform on the best of athletics facilities, but despite this and the hundreds of spectators watching, our students were unfazed and performed superbly in their disciplines.
Our individual successes on the day came from Reggie (Y9) and Niamh (Y7).
Reggie won Gold in the Junior Boys Shot put event, winning by over 1m with his personal best being measured at 11.14m. This will now result in Reggie being invited to join the County Athletics team to compete Nationally.
Niamh competed in the U13 Girls 200m race and completed it in 29.92 seconds, which meant she earnt a bronze medal.
