On Tuesday 27th October, our Year 11 students took part in a Study Skills session, ran by Mr Carr. The session linked to the Self Regulated Learning which Year 11 have been doing with Mr Carr in pastoral assemblies since Year 7! The Study Skills session focused on memory and improving memory and students had a go at a technique used to help with this, which could be useful when learning quotes for English Literature for example. Students played the part of examiner by critiquing different examples of a Chemistry extended answer, by using a mark scheme. Students had a reminder about different revision techniques and reflected on what they have tried previously and what they might try.
Students all received a bespoke study pack which included workbooks for English, Math and Science, as well as a “How to revise” book and a new exam pencil case. Students also have examples of revision timetables, as well as blank copies to help them with organising their time in preparation for mock exams and the summer exams. Students found the session very useful and that they were given important reminders ready to focus them in the coming weeks when they prepare for their mocks.
