Today we celebrated our End of Year Thanksgiving Mass — a wonderful spectacle and tradition at English Martyrs .The entire school community gathered outside under glorious summer skies. It was a joyful and moving occasion, made even more special by the presence of friends, former colleagues, and the families of our retiring staff: Mr Hunt, Mr Lee, Mr Aiken, and Mrs Sheehan (who, while not retiring, is marking 25 wonderful years of dedication and service to our school).
We were honoured to welcome Bishop Patrick McKinney, who celebrated the Mass alongside Fr Simon Gillespie and Fr Jensen. It was a fitting tribute to a fantastic year at our school and a moment of heartfelt reflection and gratitude.
A highlight of the Mass was the presentation of the St Hugh of Lincoln Medal — the Bishop’s Medal for Services to Catholic Education — to Mr Hunt. With an extraordinary 43 years of teaching at English Martyrs, he is truly a most deserving recipient.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to James, our Chaplain, whose tireless work in organising, planning, and rehearsing ensured the smooth running of the Mass including having the procession of the Cafod Jubilee Icon on display. A huge thank you as well to Mr Leonard, the music department, and all the musicians and choir, who sang and played so beautifully.
To all our retiring colleagues, we offer our deepest thanks and warmest wishes for the future. And to our entire school community, we wish you a restful and refreshing summer break.
