On Wednesday 11th November 2021, English Martyrs’ took Year 7, 8 and 9 boys’ football teams to play three separate matches against Beaumont Leys School. A total of 48 students from the different year groups attended the fixtures and represented the school as part of the annual West Leicester Boys’ Football competition.

This was the very first competitive fixture for the Year 7 team, and they made an excellent start by scoring early in the game. However, a very strong and more experienced team from Beaumont Leys then took control of the game, winning 4-2. All of the Year 7 students involved were fantastic and represented the school superbly.

Both the Year 8 and 9 teams managed to win their games convincingly, with neither team conceding a goal. Year 8 won 2-0 and Year 9 won 3-0. Despite these being the first competitive matches of the football season, both teams produced organised and spirited performances.

Mr Nicholson, Mr O’Donnell and Mr Bryan-Dooher were incredibly proud of all the students who attended and a big thanks must go to the sixth form students who have coached the teams on a voluntary basis. Congratulations to everyone involved, and good luck for upcoming fixtures.
