Y8 Football Team through to County Cup Semi-final

The English Martyrs' year 8 boys' football team recently competed to try reach the semi-final of the West Leicester County Cup. The boys played three teams away at Beaumont Leys school. Against Beaumont Leys school the team took many shots at the opposition's goalkeeper, who made saves leading to many corners for English Martyrs'. Four of these corners were headed in by Callum and another one of them was confidently headed in by Isaac. English Martyrs' continued to create scoring opportunities, which they took confidently, with Marcus and Isaac striking the ball into the bottom corners. The end result finished 7-2 win for English Martyrs', who faced Babington School next.

In the second game, English Martyrs' started well and kept possession of the ball, managing to score early in the first 10 minutes of the game. The goal was scored by Callum, who struck the ball into the top corner from a distance. English Martyrs' held onto their 1-0 lead until half-time. The game evened out in the second half, with both sides creating many chances, some good saves from both goalkeepers and many corners. Towards the end of the game Babington School managed to get a late equaliser. The end result finished a 1-1 draw and English Martyrs' needed to win their next match against Brooke Mead to play in the semi finals.

The third game started evenly between English Martyrs' and Brooke Mead. Both teams created good chances, however Brooke Mead managed to score two goals in the first half. English Martyrs' then went back out after half time with the pressure of needing a win. However the game wasn't over yet and English Martyrs' managed to grab a goal in the last fifteen minutes of the game with a free kick by Callum, who struck the ball into the top corner to make it 2-1. English Martyrs' then kept on believing they could win the game and chased every ball with hunger to win it back from the opposition. The ball was then won back by English Martyrs' who managed to score another goal in the last 10 minutes of the game. The goal was scored by Callum who received a pass and turned his opponent to then strike the ball in the bottom corner to make it 2-2.


English Martyrs' continued to push on and work hard even though they were under a lot of pressure. They managed to steal the win with a goal in the last 5 minutes of the game after Isaac received a through ball pass from Callum and smashed the ball into the bottom corner to give English Martyrs' the win. The end result finished 3-2 win for English Martyrs' who managed to steal the win with a late comeback to go through to the semi-finals and face New College.
