Celebration of Pentecost

On Sunday the Church celebrated the Feast of Pentecost. It is known as the birthday of the Church because on this great feast we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit on the apostles who fired them up to proclaim the Good News to the whole world. The scriptures tell us that as the apostles preached, people from all over the known world understood them as if they were speaking in their own language.

Students in Year 9 held their Form Masses of Pentecost which were celebrated by Fr Simon. Reflecting the many backgrounds from which we come, and in recognition that God speaks the Word to the whole of humanity, the “Our Father” was led in many different languages by our students. The Masses were very prayerful occasions and Year 9 students are to be commended on their excellent leadership in reading, writing prayers, serving and singing.

In this season we pray for the renewing guidance of the Holy Spirit: Come Holy Spirit Fill the hearts of your faithful And enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created, And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Amen.
