Sports Day 2018

Sports Day is one of the most exciting days of the year and once again it was a very successful event.

Sports Day 2018 was a day that challenged students to compete against each other in fierce temperatures reaching 28 degrees. The students were very competitive in the hot weather as they all tried their best to get to the first position and break the school records of former competitors. However for everyone the important thing was each person’s dedication and determination to help their house succeed.

Huge congratulations must go to all the staff who helped to organise this event and the staff helping with travel arrangements. All students came together making their voices known in the crowd, creating a fantastic atmosphere for competitors to perform at their best in a scenario similar to a professional track and field event. Special thanks must go to Mr Nicholson and Mr Edwards who dealt with the whole organisation of the day!

There were many strong performances from various students competing in both track and field events. Three school records that were broken on the day: Rashaan Morton 7 Campion broke the boys 200m record with a time of 27.56 seconds, which had previously been held by E. George (27.72s) since 2011. Ketshia Makita 8 More broke the girls 100m record with a time of 12.31 seconds previously taken by L. Samuels (12.70s) in 2004 and finally Sophie Thorpe 10 Ward added to her collection of records by taking the Year 10 girls 800m with a time of 2 minutes 45 seconds from F. Harrison (2m 48s) who held it from 2017.

We would like to say a great thank you and well done to St John Fisher house who won Sports Day 2018. Only 9 points behind and taking second place was St Margaret Clitheroe house and finally 48 points away from winning were St Thomas More house.

Thank you for the students conduct on the day, cheering each other on and showing love and support for each other, making this annual English Martyrs’ Sports Day one to remember.
