Further to my previous letters about the EM1 School Bus service operated by Total Travel, I am sorry to tell you that Total Travel have informed us that despite all efforts the service is running at a considerable loss and is not financially viable. It will cease operation on 31st January 2020.
As you know a number of efforts have been made in recent weeks to retain this service. Despite Total Travel adding in extra bus stops, moving bus stops and increasing the fare per journey the company are running this service at a loss of £50 per day which the school has subsidised this term from reserves.
In order to give parents/carers time to sort alternative transport to and from school I have agreed to continue with this subsidy until 31st January 2020.
I am sorry that we have not been able to secure the service. Some years ago the City Council withdrew subsidies to transport for Catholic schools and since then all services have been operated under private enterprise. As with this service this makes the provision subject to market forces.
Reimbursement from Tour Europe
As you know the original operator of this service went into receivership earlier in the term. At that point the company representative said that they would refund weekly tickets and asked us to collect them on your behalf. Unfortunately to date we have had no further communication from the receiver about this reimbursement.
