The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Monday 30th September – Friday 11th October
Students in Year 7 and 8 are taking part in a city-wide sponsored Readathon, from Monday 30th September to Friday 11th October, and we would appreciate your support.
Students can choose whatever they want to read - from comics to classics and audio books to blogs - they are not being assessed, it’s all about reading for fun. They can be sponsored to read a certain number of pages, or to read for a certain amount of time. The money raised will benefit patients in Leicester Children’s Hospital, providing brand new, infection-free reading books – and a resident storyteller. If that isn’t motivation enough, our school library will receive free books worth 20% of our sponsorship total. Last year’s city Readathon raised more than £11,000 – an amazing amount – but equally amazing is that it motivated young people to read more.
All you have to do is:
1. Take a look at what they plan to read, or help them complete their list of books to read. Remember they can read whatever they want: books, e-books, poetry, comics – anything goes! There are some suggestions on the back of this letter.
2. Help your child find sponsors among family and friends. The easiest way to sponsor a child is at www.readforgood.org/sponsor (which family and friends can use too) or return the sponsor card to school with a cheque or cash.
There will be events taking place in the school library throughout the Readathon, plus an author visit from the host of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, Greg James. Our Readathon will come to an end with a city-wide ‘Drop Everything And Read’ event at 2pm on Friday 11th October.
For more information, see your child’s sponsorship card and visit www.readforgood.org.
Thank you in advance for supporting this year’s Readathon.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs N Sheehan
