National School Closure from Friday 20th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

National School Closure from Friday 20th March 2020

As you are aware the Prime Minister has announced that all schools in England will close from Friday afternoon until further notice to the vast majority of students. This measure is taken in order to slow the spread of the Coronavirus to help save lives. English Martyrs will close to the majority of students at 2.45pm on Friday 20th March.

What does this mean for families?

This means that the school will not be running lessons for most families on site in Anstey Lane and the school buildings will be closed. Most students will continue with home-study and learning but they must do this under the supervision of parents/family.

What will the students study?

During the time of home study, students will be set work and revision learning to do by their teachers. In order to do their work students need their knowledge organisers, their exercise books and a library book. These are being sent home with students.

Please note that most of the resources are already with students eg all students have knowledge organisers for RE, History, Geography, Business Studies, French and work will be set around these resources. Students of music, dance and drama and sports studies have all been set projects by their teachers and design and students know the work that they need to undertake.

Further work and tests will be sent out via the Show My Homework app which all parents have had access to this year.

Science and Mathematics, Year 7-10

Students in years 7 to 10 Are to study mathematics using Heggarty Mathematics Lessons online and science lessons and questions from Educake.

Show my Homework

Students will also continue to receive work from their teachers via Show My Homework. Many parents already use the Show My Homework App but you can also view all set work via the web address below. You do not need a password to access this website. https://englishmartyrs-leicester.satchelone.com/school/homeworks/calendar

Year 12

AS level students in Year 12 will all use their revision guides, text books and knowledge organisers together with past papers to complete questions as directed by their teachers.

Online Resources

All students have access to a variety of online resources via Office365. In order to access these, students will need to log into Office365, select OneDrive and click on the School Resources folder. An email to remind students has been recently send with a link to open the folder directly. If a student has forgotten their password for Office365, they can have this either by emailing passwordreset@englishmartyrs.org. A response will be sent back with the new password but this may take some time, please be patient.

Student Progress Updates

We hope to complete student Progress Updates in due course and to post them to you.

Expectations of students

During this time it is our expectation that students will continue to work during school working hours providing they are well enough to do so. Parents and carers are asked to emphasise this to their children.

Communication with parents

Messages will be published on the school website and parents should check our website www.englishmartyrs.org for all official information. Please note that the telephone lines to the school may not be staffed as normal.

Safeguarding

If you have any Safeguarding concerns you may send an email to the school DSL@englishmartyrs.org. This email is always available in the Safeguarding section of the school website.

We are all aware that this is a time of national emergency in our country and across the world. I would ask our students and families to continue to unite together each day by praying for one another using our School Prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ

Make me a better person

Considerate towards others

Honest with myself

Faithful to you

Help me to find my true vocation in life

And so to find happiness myself

And bring happiness to others

Amen.

I would like to thank our students and staff for being a wonderful community of God’s kindness and love this year. All have been exemplary in living out Jesus’ words: ‘May they all be one’.

Yours sincerely

Marius Carney

Principal
