Inspiring Year 9 STEM Talk

This week, Year 9 students received a talk by Dr Andrew Dempster from the Synthetic Biology Research Centre at the University of Nottingham.

The talk provided an overview of how Dr Dempster went from a rugby playing computer scientist to a synthetic microbiologist. Students were given an overview of key genetic modification experiments he has published from his PhD. Students engaged well with the real life applications of their GCSE knowledge and hopefully it will inspire them to a career in STEM.
