On Monday 4th March, Miss Liburd and 10 students attended a Girls’ Football Camp at Loughborough University. As we are part of the Leicester City FA Girls’ Football Schools Partnership, we were invited to the camp in a bid to raise engagement in girls’ football. The camp was organised by the Youth Sport Trust alongside the Football Association and the selected students were chosen as they had shown huge commitment and passion to football within the school.
During the camp, the girls followed either a 'Marketing' (theory based) or 'Delivery' (practical based) pathway, working together as a team of Football Activators throughout the day. Their aim was to consider the actions they will take back into school to develop and deliver appealing and relevant football opportunities for their peers.
The students spent the day with Sue Smith (an ex England professional footballer who is currently employed by the BBC as a pundit) and Sophie Bradley-Auckland (an England international footballer and captain of Liverpool Women's F.C). Miss Liburd received positive feedback from both Sue and Sophie with regards to our girls' attitude and the fantastic skill set they have already established.
All 10 girls had an inspirational and rewarding day and at English Martyrs we look forward to witnessing what they achieve as part of a dedicated and passionate team of football activators.
