Football Success

On Tuesday 24th September the year 7 football team played in their first tournament at New College. We were the first team to arrive there and had time to put on our boots, get warmed up and discuss tactics for the matches. In our first game we beat Lancaster 5-0, with Noel and Seth scoring two goals each. In our second game we won 3-0 against Samworth, with Seth scoring again along with Noel. Our last game was against New College and again we won 3-0, which included a goal from Noel direct from a corner kick. We finished the tournament unbeaten and will play the other schools in the league next week. Mr Nicholson and Mr O'Donnell selected Noel and Seth as players of the tournament.

On Tuesday 1st October the year 7 football team finished their West Leicester Football League. They first played against Babbington and drew 0-0, but then finished with wins against both New College and Samworth. All of the students involved were excellent and demonstrated fantastic team spirit, and will rightly progress into the knockout stages of the competition. Player of the tournament was David.

On Tuesday 17th September the year 8 boys’ football team had their first competitive matches of the new season, participating in the West Leicester League at New College. Despite a frustrating 0-0 draw with Beaumont Leys, the team improved their overall performance and won the remaining fixtures, 1-0 against New College and finished by beating Babington 2-1. An excellent start to the new campaign by all students involved, however Enzo was nominated as player of the tournament.

On Thursday 19th September the year 9 boys also had their first competitive matches of the new season, participating in the West Leicester League at New College. A number of excellent team performances saw them win every match, firstly beating Lancaster 1-0, Samworth 3-0 and finally Beaumont Leys 2-0. Almost all of the entire squad could have been selected as man of the tournament, but it was given to Scott for not conceding a goal all tournament.

On Monday the year 9 team welcomed Ibstock College for a football match in the 2nd round of the National Cup. The whole squad involved performed superbly, demonstrating excellent organisation and communication skills throughout the match. Goals from Josh and Raijuan sealed a 3-1 win and as a result they progress further into round 3. Man of the match was Kerry.
