Aspire Champions Lead High Flyer Programme

This week, High Flyer programme for Years 9 and 10 reaches its culmination as students submit their 1500 word essays on why some books have been banned and decide if there are any valid reasons for a ban to be imposed, focusing on the works of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens or William Shakespeare.

The programme's success is in no small part thanks to the superb leadership of our volunteer Aspire Champions in Years 12 and 13 (pictured).

Last term, the Aspire Champions led weekly sessions with their groups of Year 9 and 10 students, delivering engaging, interactive presentations to help each group towards its final project on 'cancel culture'. This concluded in a competitive balloon debate in week 5.

At the start of this new term, students have now submitted their essays on their chosen authors, and the Aspire Champions are busy marking and moderating the essays. Essays from each group will then be put forward for final moderation by our school Chair of Governors, Dr Lazarus, and the winners announced later this month.

Our thanks to Mrs Sheehan for devising and leading this year's English-based topic and to Dr Joshi for his support in the running of the programme.
