The season of Advent marks the beginning of the Church Year and is a time of preparation for Christmas. The first part of Advent looks towards the second coming of the Lord and the Last Judgement.
St Matthew’s Gospel records that Jesus told a parable about the Last Judgment. He describes the virtues of the blessed: ‘I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.’ This Advent, following Jesus’ instruction, we are striving to support a number of charities. We are collecting food and toiletries for our local food banks and toiletries for City of Sanctuary – a charity helping refugees and asylum seekers in Leicester. We invite every student to bring in at least one item. Please get involved!
