On Monday 10th October 2022, the year 8 boys' football team competed in their first National Cup match away against Robert Smyth Academy in Market Harborough. The boys dominated the first half, playing a high level of football and forcing the opponents' goal keeper into many saves, leading to multiple corners. A decisive corner kick led to the first goal for English Martyrs', after a great delivery by Marcus and header by Callum.
With it being 1-0 at half time, English Martyrs' then took control of the game, after making two substitutions. The team created many chances in the second half, culminating in a goal that was confidently struck into the top corner by Edgar.
To secure the win for English Martyrs', the ball was confidently dribbled down the left wing and placed in the corner by Taku. The end result finished 3-1, after Robert Smyth Academy scored a late goal towards the end of the match.
Following this fantastic win, the team will now compete against The Prior Ruskin Academy in the third round. Well done to all the students involved and good luck in the next round!
